A Nation; Biafra

In the depths of time's forgotten pages,

Lies the tale of a land torn by raging rages,

Where Biafra, a nation fought for its right,

To carve its destiny in freedom's light.

Oh, let me tell you the story of the Biafra war,

A poignant struggle, where courage rose afar,

For in the midst of Nigeria's vast domain,

Biafra emerged with aspirations never in vain.

Once a land of beauty, rich in traditions grand,

Biafra whispered legends, tales that spanned,

From the mighty Niger to the Niger Delta's shore,

A tapestry woven with pride in the hearts it bore.

But alas, the winds of division soon came to blow,

As the people's dreams clashed, tears began to flow,

Political turmoil and ethnic tension would ignite,

Triggering a conflict that lasted day and night.

In nineteen sixty-seven, the war drums beat,

Biafrans stood strong, refusing to retreat,

Their struggles were not against their kin,

But against a system that oppressed them within.

With General Ojukwu leading the charge,

Biafra united, determined to enlarge,

Its sphere of influence, its right to be free,

An independent nation, flourishing to see.

But the federal forces unleashed horrifying might,

With cruelty and bloodshed, they tried to smite,

Bombs raining upon cities, embargoes imposed,

For the world to witness, Biafra's pain exposed.

Images of malnourished children filled the news,

Their tiny limbs, a heart-wrenching abuse,

Yet the world turned a blind eye, deaf to their plea,

Biafra's suffering, a forgotten tragedy.

But why should Biafra be allowed to go?

For justice, for peace, for humanity to know,

That sovereignty belongs to a people's will,

Their aspirations should never be crushed or still.

To deny Biafra its freedom is to deny life,

The very essence of human rights in strife,

For it is in self-determination, a nation's core,

That dreams can flourish, and peace can restore.

Biafra, a land bathed in resilience's glow,

With ancient wisdom that would surely show,

That unity in diversity is not a mere creed,

But a testament to the strength of humanity's seed.

Oh, let the world listen to Biafra's plea,

For peace and justice, let it bend its knee,

Allow this nation to rise and shine anew,

Like a phoenix soaring, its dreams coming true.

For in the echoes of the Biafra war's cry,

Lies the poignant question, the reason why,

Biafra should be allowed to forge its fate,

An independent nation, not shackled by hate.
